kidneyforU hasone goal in mind: to facilitate your search for your special donor who will give you the gift of life. There is no charge and there are no catches. It's simply a way of paying forward the gift my donor gave to me.
This is a program to guide those in need of a kidney transplant find a living donor, with the help of people who have been through the process themselves. This life-saving program will help alleviate the total confusion and helplessness that too many people experience when faced with the daunting prospect of finding a living donor.
HOW DO WE DO IT?
We have created a Boston based volunteer Kidney Mentor Program to help you find that special person. We are trained kidney recipients who have had a successful kidney transplant from a living donor and want to be with you on your journey. Mentors will be matched with you, to listen, support and and help you navigate your search.
The search is catered to you, to help you overcome your obstacles, use your own resources and find a way that works best for you.
This is a start-up, a Boston pilot program; one that we hope will continue to grow. We have big dreams!
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM?
*Patients who do not have a family donor, or anyone that has offered to help.
*Patients who have had potential donors ruled out.
*Patients whose kidney from a previous transplant has been rejected.
*Preferably, patients who are looking for a preemptive transplant or are in their
first year of dialysis. (no-one is automatically ruled out)
Most importantly, you must be motivated and willing to work hard to find your donor!
